In the BAG

Regardless of what type of tea you enjoy, and how you prefer making it, tea bags have their own niche in the convenience they offer. So Naturally....I too have all of my blends available in convenient, bleach-free tea bags.

With herbal tisanes, which are the Madam Potts specialty, they don't need to "unfurl" so the tea bag is that much more practical. One cannot argue that the taste is diminished.

Because I drink most of my herbals on a special needs basis, it is important to me to have the herbal tea when I need it - and I rarely am home.

Drinking a cup of scullcap tea 3 times a day becomes a WHOLE lot easier with the use of the tea bag.

Tea bags get such a bad rap...hey they're not alllll bad!

The Big Idea

Like so many other things on the market, I prefer to spend my money on buying something exactly the way I want it. I don't always want what someone else hands me, I want it to be unique. I want something that nobody else has.

I want a tea that reflects my personality.
I want to design and name my own blend.
I want it my way.

Wouldn't it be great if you could create your own blend? You may like the selection of any amount of retailers, but let's face it - they don't do special orders and they don't make substitutions.

That's where I come in.

PersonaliTEAS - the blend that that suits YOU...to a tea!

So if you want a sencha green tea with schizandra berries and jasmine flowers - try as you may, Adagio isn't going to have it. Or maybe you wanted the spicy chai only without the black tea? or maybe it would be better for you personally if it had ginseng and extra cinnamon instead... Maybe you like lots of lavendar in your blends... Ever want something really simple like a white tea with peppermint, but you can't find it.

NOW YOU CAN.

I get all of my herbs from well-respected, environmentally conscious wholesalers and most of them are certified organic (unless otherwise noted).

I am in the process of building the website to make this alot easier. In the meantime you can be among the first to try this out. Did I mention a 20% discount? That's right. Consider it an Advanced Opening Sale.

You can either send me an order if you know what you would like or I can send you a customization form, from which I will design "Your Tea" (I'll even let you name it!) by clicking here: BLEND ME A TEA I will send you a questionairre to complete and return to me. From there, I will design a tea based on your preferences.

If you're not sure about blending your own or about having a tea blended for you, then you can always purcahse a "Mad Pots Designer Blend" I will be posting these blends on this blog to let you know what pre-established blends I have are. Some of these blends on this blog have been posted: Petal Pusher, Lemon Lift, and AphrodiTEA.

Too Much of a Good Thing

It is possible to have too much of a good thing. It's called indulgence...or being a packrat...or I guess I'm just too damn slow to drink all the tea. Having been gifted a ton of free tea, I was quick to give most of it away or drink it....but more free tea came. Then I posted that I was giving away tea for free (scroll to 12/28/2005)...only no one picked up on it until 2 weeks ago....now the tea is just too old (not that this free gifted tea was great to begin with). I've been living with a bag of undrinkable tea for entirely too long. Decluttering my teeny apartment is a continuous mission. Keeping low quality goods for no reason is not helping.

I guess I will have to revisit the September 12th post about what to do with tea (besides drink it, silly rabbit!) I guess I will clean my mirrors and windows...and take a footbath. I think I should challenge myself to recycle this in the best way possible and report on it.

I'm really sorry about not having free tea to give away. But giving away other people's tea is not what I'm about right now. Anyone having read this (assuming I have loyal readers) knows that I have been experimenting with my own blends. I am at the point of making them and selling them. If you really want to know what I do, if you want to purchase a sample or have me create a tea just for you (sold in small quantites so that you are not over run by tea)...drop me an email: madpotsoftea@aol.com

I will be listing the current line of blends soon so you don't have to ask what I have.

The Lovin' Herbful

It was my opportunity to take a one-night class with Robin Rose Bennett, my favorite teacher and herbalist....and during the course of the evening, we talked about herbs and spices that can be used to stimulate the blood, relax the mind and body, herbs that can be drunk or burned all in the name of setting the mood (both internally and externally).

Among the superstars of the evening was the herb Damiana. Prior to this class I was not aware of this herb. But alas, I am in love.

The fact that this herb was used by the Ancient Mayan and Aztec civiliazations as an aphrodisiac only added to the already alluring taste and fragrance. And with most aphrodisiac herbs, they tend to be anti-depressants - no coincedence I'm sure ;) Damiana is used for a variety of reasons, which I will not go into here. But having finally purchased and sampled it in a tea, I felt the discovery merited a blog entry.

I can't WAIT to start blending this one. I think my blend, My Sweet Love could use a make-over...and there's a few people I'm sure who will be very interested as well.

Naturally, everyone using any herb or botanical should do there own research. As I am not writing a college thesis paper, I have no desire to write out that research in this entry, but I will recommend a few web sites.

Read more about Damiana.

More Damiana.

Teacup Half Full

March comes in like a Lion and drinks up all your tea....

Seriously, it's been a flurry of activiTEA.

The group that I moderate, the CitySippers, met yesterday at TSalon yesterday and the group has eagerly planned to meet in 2 weeks on March 20th. I am excited to see that the interest is alive and well and that the Sippers are taking an active part in the group overall.

I got my scale today and am going to need the rest of the month to figure out "quantity" and cost formulas and fun things like "inventory" on my slow but steady march towards selling my wares. I finally can stop eyeballing how much 2oz of tea really is. And 4oz - that's quite a lot of tea! I think smaller quatities are best as it helps to ensure the freshest blend. (Buy small but often!)

I blend tea because I like it. Not because it's trendy or that this is going to be my ticket to fame and fortune, but because when I blend a tea it's with all my heart. I can only guess it's the same rush a chef gets making a fabulous dinner for people even though he's not the one eating....

In the meantime I am meeting more interesting people all because of this one commonality, a shared interest in tea. I feel in the past 4 months I have met countless people I never would have talked to and that makes my journey (in tea and in Life) a more scenic trip to be on.

from the kitchen....

ooh! I got my shipment in of poly-lined bags, and individual tea bags (individual serving and mad pot sized!) in order to be package my teas in a variety of ways. I am looking forward to not only being able to blend people their own personal tea blends, but also be able to offer it in a # of ways.

Slowly but surely, the pieces are falling into line. Purchasing the right variety of tools to help me carry out this passion. I've had more feedback about my teas....though still have not heard from the tea companies that I sent them to. That's fine. I guess if they don't hire me, I'll be blending my own line of teas anyway.

I get a lot of people asking me how I know how to blend -- I've found there is no one answer to that...trial and error? research? Inspiration? Taste? Intuition? I don't know, I just know that it happens. I know I can lose time in the kitchen blending, peeling, crushing, cutting and mixing. I'm starting to wake up and blend a tea before work! I can't tell you how many times I've had to "remember" that I actually have to be at work...I love being in my kitchen. It's the most calming place. It's like meditation only instead of chanting a mantra, I'm repeating a recipe.
